Abstract

At present considerable quantities of mango seed kernels and tomato waste produced at fruit canning factories are being wasted. In order to find out whether these products can be utilized without any ill effect, in the present study an attempt was made to replace concentrate mixture from the ration of adult bullocks by either 50 per cent tomato waste or 40 per cent mango seed kernels.

Abstract

Agricultural team sponsored by Ford Foundation recommended extensive use of food byproducts and waste materials. Study group appointed by I. C A. R. has also recommended the use of number of byproducts. This shows the acute shortage of feeds for our cattle and other animals. Mango seed kernel is a byproduct from mango fruit canning industry and it is also collected by merchants in different areas. Kehar, Kehar and Chanda, Kehar and Sahai, and Sahai have studied some of the unconventional feeds. In the present study mango seed kernel was tried to see its effect on milch cows.

Abstract

Hybrid napier (Pennisetum Purpureum Schmn and Thonn) is a promising green fodder for its profuse yield. Ray et al have reported about double the protein content in hybrid napier as compared to local napier grass. As a result of earlier work at this Institute, Patel et al have reported 50 days cutting intervals for hybrid napier to get maximum yield of dry matter and nutrients. They have also reported considerable variations in the composition and the dry matter yield of the hybrid napier during different seasons.

Abstract

It is a known fact that there is a very acute shortage of feeds for our animals. Whatever we have to feed them, is severely deficient in protein. This has competed people to find out new sources both for supplying of enough feeds and also enough protein. Cullison, Davis et al, woodward and Shephard, Mitchell et al Bently et al Tiborne and Johnson et al carried out work to study the utilization of urea, ammonia and other nitrogen sources by farm animals, by mixing these in silage.
